Staying connected

All communities have skills and experiences in responding to conflict. Sometimes the dislocation of war, loss, or of moving to a new country can make it hard for people to use tried and tested community conflict resolution methods.

staying connected The findings from a series of interviews are reported in Staying Connected: Echoes of Conflict, stories of how communities cope produced by pioneering Community Conflict agency, Conflict and Change and published by Community Links. The interviews give an authentic snapshot of the ways that different communities living in east London are responding to the conflicts they encounter.

The book presents a series of case studies exploring the traditional methods of conflict resolution amongst different communities, now resident in London. The stories were collected as part of a three year project to learn about the kinds of conflicts faced by different communities, and the ways each community responds to them. The aim is to aid understanding of the conflict resolution processes which exist within communities and to take the learning from the research to a wider network of conflict resolution and community mediation practitioners across the UK.
