The London Marathon has been one of my greatest achievements in life…
06 May 2011
Congratulations to all of our London Marathon Runners, that took the 26.2 mile challenge to raise vital funds to support the work of Community Links. As well as a wonderful sense of achievement for completing the course, the sponsorship raised by the team will go towards helping some of the most disadvantaged people in our community.
Marathon Runner Michele Rigoni from Morgan Stanley, shares her experience of the day...
"The London Marathon has been an unbelievable experience and satisfaction, one of my greatest achievements in life. On race day, the unknown streets were made familiar by the crowds cheering and shouting your name. On that Sunday, every runner could feel that sensation deep inside, and it was amazing how the supporters could still carry you forward, when the legs started to falter.
But also running on known streets was different; they were transformed by the colors and noise from the crowd, almost unrecognizable when comparing them with those long winter runs, alone or supported by a few fellow runners from time to time.
The last miles seemed to be a never-ending struggle to get to the finish line, but I was eventually in sight of St James Park, and then The Mall. I finished with an excellent and almost unexpected result, in 03hr 04m 37s.
Another great joy has been the possibility to share the fruits of my hard work with Community Links, and raise funds to help people in need. One of the many motivators that helped me carry through the 26.2 miles.
Thanks for your support and nice messages throughout the preparation period, I hope you had a nice time joining the crowd on race day!"
Big thanks from us to Michele and the Community Links Marathon team!
