Iain Duncan Smith visits Community Links
08 Jul 2011
Today Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Iain Duncan Smith visited Community Links to hear about our work and the issues facing people in Newham.
During the visit, arranged by West Ham MP Lyn Brown, the minister met staff and users who told him about the the value of early action projects like community centres and legal aid and the importance of deep value relationships in the delivery of services.
The Minister said: "I was very inspired by the work that Community Links are doing. The charity clearly has a very real impact on the lives of the people who come into contact with it and I was extremely impressed by the passion and dedication of the staff who I met. The charity’s work also fits in very well with my welfare reforms at DWP and I hope to establish a lasting relationship with Community Links.”
As well as being in charge of the Department for Work and Pensions, Duncan Smith chairs a government committee on social justice.
