Community Links hosts first policy speech by the new Prime Minister

Prime Minister Gordon Brown today launched a new book and policy initiatives at an event hosted by east London charity Community Links. The event, which took place at Central Hall Westminster, saw the new Prime Minister make his first formal public speech, at which he celebrated ‘everyday heroes making a difference’ and pledged more support for and recognition of individuals and voluntary organisations who make powerful and positive contributions to our society. Community Links launches training programme for civil servants.

We are have developed, in partnership with the National School of Government, a new training programme that will introduce civil servants to the Community Links approach to leadership. Working alongside local residents and service users, participants will develop their understanding of how national policy plays out at local level, undertake an investigation into the local delivery of public services and develop ideas for service innovation. OBE for a star Trustee

Our longstanding and loyal Trustee, Stan Harris, has been awarded for 30 years of support for Community Links by an OBE from the Queen. We are delighted for Stan, as he has done so much to help our work over many years, including endless personal fundraising efforts, free legal advice and acting as a ‘ambassador’ for Community Links. Youth iMPOWERED!

Over 20 volunteers from iMPOWER joined forces with several members of Community Links staff and a group of 5 young people to conduct a research project in Stratford. The aim of the research was to understand the needs of young people in the area and to find out how they feel about regeneration taking place locally due to the Olympics coming to town. In total, 2 focus groups were conducted at the New Canteen centre and 134 surveys were conducted in Stratford Shopping Centre to collect data… Read more.
