1st Apr 2007

Over 20 volunteers from iMPOWER joined forces with several members of Community Links staff and a group of 5 young people to conduct a research project in Stratford.

The aim of the research was to understand the needs of young people in the area and to find out how they feel about regeneration taking place locally due to the Olympics coming to town. In total, 2 focus groups were conducted at the New Canteen centre and 134 surveys were conducted in Stratford Shopping Centre to collect data and then the findings were presented to members of the local community at the end of the day.

“We at iMPOWER were delighted to take part in this project. Much of our work is with Children & Young People’s departments in local authorities across the country, but this gave us a unique opportunity to spend a day working directly with young people and those who provide services for them, and to use our consulting skills in a completely different environment. We look forward to finding out how this work moves forward.” (Giles Piercy, Chief Executive, iMPOWER Consulting Ltd)

“It was a fantastic day, and we received a very favourable response to the questionnaires and the focus groups. It was great to see the young people, colleagues from Links and iMPOWER staff all working effectively together and we have now a very strong basis on which to build to ensure a greater voice and influence for young people in regeneration activity and future developments within the local community.” Carol Jackson, Head of Youth Work, Community Links.
